It’s not just this comic. Ideas like this are everywhere, and that’s the biggest problem about it. If by mentally sick, you mean ‘feel entitled to sex,’ you’d be a lot more accurate as to who is supported and who engages in these behaviors. That is the exact phenomenon being depicted and it is disgustingly prevalent in real life. No, not all people who feel entitled to sex will commit sexual violence against another person, as long as it’s normalized and reinforced that it’s not a bad thing or not important enough to keep from joking about, sexual violence will happen as a result of it. This is the epitome of rape culture.

Underaged girls do not get raped because of their arousing appearance. Nobody gets raped because of their appearance. People get raped because someone decided to assault someone sexually and commit a crime. Appearance, dress, pose, or circumstance do not excuse or cause rape. It is not the victim’s job to make themselves in a certain way to stop rape, it is the job of the population in general to not go out and rape.
There are statistics that show that the majority of rapes happen within a mile of the home, or in the home. People are not raped most of the time in a back alley wearing a cocktail dress, they are raped the majority of the time by someone they know and possibly trust, wearing something perfectly acceptable and in no way asking for or deserving it.
It does not matter that this comic isn’t canon, and it doesn’t matter that this comic does not depict the rape of actual people. The thing that matters is that this comic conveys and supports the message that women wearing certain clothing or acting a certain way deserve rape, and have it coming to them. This message, that it is ok to rape and that it is in fact the victim’s fault, educates people who end up going out and committing those crimes. We live in a culture where this message is prevalent, and shouldn’t be. It normalizes rape to the point where many people surveyed do not even know what counts as “consent” anymore.
This is not “long overdue,” or something that Link “deserves,” it is rape and it is morally abhorrent. The artist is promoting the idea that rape is ok by this image. It doesn’t matter whether Link has been vying for Zelda’s affections for a day or for decades. Link does not “deserve” sex because of those efforts. Sex is not something that is earned through favors, but given by a consenting individual.
@Bamshablam It’s a cartoon comic about a non-existant universe depicting an unofficial course of events. If somebody really doesn’t have the mental ability to understand that this is not advocating rape than they shouldn’t be allowed access to the internet for their own safety.
Actually I find these comics very educational, for example, she was in a “I’m a sexy slut” pose at the begging. This could teach the community what happens to these girls when they dress up/act like sluts IF they are not such.
