Out of nowhere I felt like drawing Mabel again, you can see my earlier work regarding Gravity Falls over here. As you may have noticed, I have started more and more, to draw cartoony characters in a personal style, like I did with Frankie Foster or Leela. I drew Mabel like I used to and emulated the style of the show to the best of my abilities.
I would like to have your input by telling me what do you prefer personally? Do you prefer it when I completely redesign the caracters in my own style, or do you want to see more like this emulating the style of the show more closely?
Let me know cause I am genuinely curious what you would prefer.

I prefer to see work that stays on-model. A little bit of signature style is absolutely OK, it often adds a little extra to the work, but going too far in that direction tends to make it feel like you’re looking at a different, fan-made character. And at that point why even go to the effort of basing it on something from a show or game?

Usually, I like when hentai takes the original art style because it is easier to recognize the characters. However, since Gravity Falls (and most Disney shows) have a really simple design, I don’t mind altering the character designs so they become more curvy and sexier.
That said, I’m not into girls with piercings or tattoos. However, I care more about the scene itself than the individual character designs. I.e., Mabel getting fucked silly with a huge dick = you can draw it however you want and I’d like it.

Personally i like to be able to recognize the character but sometimes it is necessary to redesign them in your own style after all some characters look like sticks.
I feel like it depends on the situation and character. If it’s too cartoony and you want a serious vibe (as serious as you can get) or if you are making a comic then your style for sure. If you make a one time pin up or the have a very certain look than I say do it their way

I really prefer your own style, with a couple exceptions. Leela was almost unrecognizable, without her huge mouth. I didn’t feel like I was looking at the same character. Every other image has been amazing, because I don’t think any major characteristics have been lost.

Personally, I prefer you trying your own original style, instead of trying to emulate the show’s. I like seeing you give characters your own little twist. They look better that way, in my opinion. At a certain point, attempting to capture a show’s style just looks lazy and unimaginative (see: a good chunk of Zone flashes).

Irrespective of each artwork, most of ur own style applied to characters comes out fantastic… As in u bring the ‘hotness’ of said characters to a whole new level. However ones like this, are too cartoony to formulate proper feelings for. Still great artwork tho, totally diggin the rockin gothic getup.

I’ll be honest with you Shad, on some occasions I really like your personal interpretations of the characters. Other times not so much. But most of the pics you do in your style are really good and I’ve never really had much trouble recognizing them. It kind of really depends on the character themselves, sometimes they might have such a unique style that it could be hard to redraw with your own hand. In that case I’m more then happy to see your personal version of them.

I definitely prefer it when you draw the characters in your own style, that’s one of the main reasons I was drawn to your work to begin with! It definitely sets you apart from other hentai artists and I love it.

I like it when the characters are done in your style. That’s what I come here for. However, sometimes you go a bit too far with the modifications, such as with Mabel. The Mabel at the top of this screen is pretty hard to recognize as the Mabel from gravity falls. Corrupt her all you want, but don’t take it to the point where the character is completely unrecognizable.
ehh, it depends on the character. like maybe leela wouldn’t have looked as good in a more symplistic but closer to the show style because she would be pretty damn hot in real life, but mabel is more like a kid so… she’s cuter as a cartoon? i don’t know. I’ll say this much for certain, this is good.

And to answer you’re question shad, it depends for me. I disliked the way you did Leela, but I liked the way you did the Frankie comic, so for those really cartoony shows, I would say to go for there style, for the one’s that aren’t I would say no, if that made any sense.
But Frankie is cartoonier than all of them in the original.

Honestly, I think Frankie and Leela have been some of your best drawn characters yet. When you take creative liberty it just comes across much more appealing. The emulation is nice, and feels a bit more kinky(?), probably because of their disproportionate bodies, but seems much less… sexy. IMO
If by your style you mean your drawing style and all that then that’s the best way to make them, but if you mean how you “Shad” the characters(extreme “punk”(?) overhaul with tats, piercings, etc.), I’d prefer them without that stuff myself if the character didn’t already have it. It’s just a personal preference though, I know.

Some characters as cute and innocent as Mabel are fun to see “redesigned”, other characters with mostly bland clothing, like Korra, are also good for new styles, however, some characters like Mad Moxxi, for instance, are not in the need for it.
To keep it short, redesign what you think SHOULD be redesigned, if you can exploit their current looks, they shouldn’t be changed.

Regarding your question, I actually do prefer to see characters in the style of their shows, cause whenever I see a character I want to be drawn, I want how I see her in the show and no offense but it’s not always that I enjoy your own style (That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate your work and find it amazing)

In answer to your question, i feel the way you draw characters is completely up to the art style of the show or movie. In the case of Gravity Falls, i feel you should try to recreate the art style of the show as closely as possible, But when it comes to live action characters or original, adding your own style would best then.

I kinda like the middle ground, you emulating the art style but taking creative liberties here and there. But if I had to choose I’d say try to emulate the more cartoony art styles and characters (like Gravity Falls) and redesign the more human proportioned characters (Like Leela and Frankie).
Also, to let you know, I’m currently using this site from the Wii U and when I clicked on the comment box I got a super annoying ad tgat opened another tab, one of those “Hot sex now!” kind of things.

One example that comes to mind is the ‘Margaret’ from Regular Show images. You drew her in your own style and it was far better than if you drew in the style of the show.

Personally, I rather prefer to see the characters in the style they originally were created with. However, this opinion has mostly been based on your recent Futurama post (Hence being said I would love to see Leela or Any other Futurama character drawn as their original design). But again it is never the worst thing of the day when you post a picture, which you had to design yourself…So Yeaa
For a lot of people, I prefer the original’s style over the creators – with exception to very few. You are one of the very few, I really love your style above most originals, as your way of drawing them is just incomparable to anyone else. Let other folks redraw in the style, only you can do you.
The best part about seeing fanart is seeing the characters drawn in someone’s else’s own personal style.
But theres something erotic about seeing the characters as themselves being dirty.

I think a mixture of the two, it’s nice to see a sexy version of a character that could be put into the show/movie they’re from and not look out of place, but I think everyone here would say that they come here to see your style and your take on things not a perfect replica of somebody elses style with some tits and vag showing

It depends really. Certain characters look good when you draw them your style because their original style doesn’t look the greatest. Certain characters like Mabel though look better in their original style because it is just too hard to see that character not in that style. I like it either way, I just think it is on you to really judge if you think something looks better redrawn using your style or emulate the one they already have.
Thankyou, good input, its kind of what I thought, i started sketching a redesigned Mabel, but it just didnt look right. However I have seen other artists such as Tehuko do a good redesign of Mabel.
You’re welcome man. To give an example, it was clearly way better that you drew in your own style when you did the Neurotically Mine commission. In the end you have a good eye for aesthetic, and I really trust you would make a better decision than anyone else here on the style. You know what you’re doing.
