As an art student, I will say that constantly churning out large,elaborate pieces is extremely tiring. It’s even worse when you’re doing it at the behest of others. It’s healthier to take a break, and keep yourself occupied with smaller things like doodles and comics. It also allows you more time to plan out ideas for larger pieces, instead of scrambling to do them all one after the other. Doing what you like at your own pace is much healthier than being a workhorse. Shad’s developed so much as an artist and has put out amazing stuff for years. If he needs a break, let him. He damn well deserves one. There’s no “good” or “bad” Shad, There’s just Shad, and he’s free to do what he wants, and free to explore his artistic abilities. As i said before, doing nothing but elaborate, heavily detailed pieces becomes tedious over time, and really wears down motivation. Finding a balance with your work makes doing it more enjoyable, and it’s infinitely healthier for you in every way.

I’ve been following JLullaby’s since he first made the “Waterballoons” comic and while I’m happy to say that his art style has improved tremendously since then, the same can’t be said the rest of his work, which, for the last few years, has consisted almost exclusively on rehashing with minimal variation the tired concept of ” girl(or trap) being forcefully fucked (in any hole) with dicks of unfathomable size and turned into a mindless husk that lives only for sexual pleasure” heavily relying on before and after images, first showing the girl, unaware of her fate and then showing her after being broken, covered with cum, with all her holes gaping, rarely showing what happened in between.
This stagnation is the result of JL getting too comfortable with his current situation and has inhibited his development as an artist which goes beyond mere technical improvements and, if allowed to continue it will result in JL being nothing more than an unambitious and mediocre artist which was more than happy to red on his laurels.
I don’t get the JLullaby hate. I think his art, especially when he sticks to his roots, is fantastic. I don’t love the coloring/character choice here but the art is phenomenal.
